SAUTERNES

CHATEAU DUDON
Sauternes, in Barsac

Château Dudon is located in Barsac, about 30 kilometers south from Bordeaux. It is owned by Evelyne and Michel Allien, who cultivate 11.8 hectares in organic culture.

The main grape variety is Sémillon (88%), White Sauvignon  (11%)  and Muscadelle (1%) add liveliness.
The particularity of Sauternes is the sweetness of these wines, thanks to what we call noble rot: botrytis cinerea. The production is very tiny :2 to 3 glasses for a vine. The familial hand pickers have  to select the good fruits, making several hand pickings (usually four to five). Château Dudon and Château Gallien can be aged for many years, from 30 to 60 years, making them a perfect gift for birthday's presents.
